Jamaica 2

I am still not allowed to do anything, I go to get them a drink and I'm told to sit down, Preacher (everyone here has a nickname!) is the barman tonight, and we rarely have an empty bottle of Red Stripe in our hands for more than a minute! They make sure the three of us have seats, even if it means they are standing and wait on us hand and foot. I didn't ask them to do any of this, it is just the way they are - probably the most friendly people in the world!

The food is ready now, we have a waiter too, and someone designated to take round the napkins and knives & forks, and a DJ, it seems that everyone has a designated job except Dougie, Jenny and myself! The food is amazing, akee & saltfish, Jerk chicken, rice & peas, roasted breadfruit, the works. All typical Jamaican fare and all cooked to perfection, we tuck in and eat until we are fit to burst. The Appleton Rum comes out and the party starts to 'lively up' everyone is having a great time and the atmosphere is totally 'irie'.

There is always loud music in Jamaica all through the night, it's part of the culture.

We party on quite late, the music blaring so most of the village can hear it, but that is so normal that nobody takes any notice. There is always loud music in Jamaica all through the night, it's part of the culture. The Jamaicans just cannot stop dancing, and their dancing would put most of the best white dancers to shame. They really do have the rhythm! The only people that do ask us to turn it down are the guests in the resort next door - oh well!

At the end of the night people start to clear up too - have you ever been to a party where all the guests make sure the place is actually in a better state than they found it? - it's a first for me, I send them all away before they get the dusters and paintbrushes out and thank them all for this amazing night.

Dougie & Jenny are overwhelmed by the hospitality they have received and thank me so much. I am overwhelmed too and have never felt so proud in all my life. "Don't thank me, mon, thank Briggie and the guys, they are the ones that did everything!"
